You can call me Maria, amino*, ‘mino, ami, or aminowrimo. As you can probably tell, I’m not picky. Come up with a nickname and I’ll think about adding it here. I was born December 19th, 1994, in Bucharest, Romania, and moved to the USA when I was two and a half. Since then, I’ve lived and traveled all over the world. (You can read more about my family’s travels here) It’s possible because of homeschooling— something I’ve been doing for ten years on and off. Currently I’m a mathematics major seriously considering tacking on a computer science major as well.
I began reading when I was five (I started with Oink! and Are You My Mother?), and have been reading ever since. I’ll read any classic on a ‘best book’ list, partly out of a sense of duty and partly because, if it’s there, it’s got to be good for something. My favorite genres include romance, nonfiction (evolution, how-brains/people/cultures-work, education), and anything that looks interesting. I haven’t tried horror yet, but it might be on the list. Since going to college, my patience with books has devolved.
I’ve been writing since I was nine. At 15 I managed to write something I can reread without cringing too much. Now, I’m trying to rewrite a novel I wrote in Malaysia. It moves slowly but it’s doable. If you want to read my daily worlds (a bit about the world around me, written every day in late 2011 and all of 2012), you can click here. If you’re interested in reading the novel… post somewhere and encourage me to finish it!

* When I was about twelve, I wanted to make an account on a website. I asked my brother to help me pick a name. Being about seven, he chose ‘amino.’ Neither of us had any idea what it meant until much later.
